What Is Your Personal Portland?
Many times as I’ve walked my neighborhood or have showed homes to people new to the area, I have expressed continued amazement at all that this great city has to offer. For me, this is My Personal Portland: the trees, the micro-brews, the weird people that I love, the neat old houses and the uniquely different neighborhoods in each quadrant of the map. Sprinkled between are parks and bridges, trails and bike paths and of course the rain. My daughter’s boyfriend suggests that Portland is a rainy place for sunny people and I would have to agree.
Some people are from here and others move to the area following the siren song Portland sings to any eccentric personality that has their antennae up. While still others pass through and fall in love with the rich food culture or bustling beer and weed scene. Home. Some don’t stop and that’s ok, unless it’s a stop sign and then you need to STOP. Really, all you need to do is to peel back the layers and you find something to love. There is something for everyone, each person has a unique perspective on what makes this city so cool.
One of my favorite things Portland has to offer is the food cart or food “truck” scene. Like a phoenix from the ashes of the financial crisis of 2008-2013, good food needed to be had at a price that we could afford. A few of my favorites: NONG’S KHAO MAN GAI or THE ORIGINAL HALIBUTS, keep it going with some BBQ at MATT’S BBQ. The possibilities are endless and can be further explored HERE.
Food is a central theme coursing along the curbs of every street in Portland and should be consumed as often as possible. Try a new restaurant or food cart every day for the year and not repeat once, it can be done! Of course, with food some say comes beer and Portland has 84 breweries to quench your thirst. Oregon attracts beer lovers to the Portland area which hosts the BREW FEST every year and the competition is pretty fierce. Lots of smiling shining faces with spaces filled in laughter. If of course you’re not into big festival scenes take a stroll up to PROST on N. Mississippi Ave.
These are just some of what makes this My Own Personal Portland but I’m interested to know what YOUR PERSONAL PORTLAND looks like, feels like, smells like or even tastes like. Don’t worry, it’s all GOOD.
